A longtime source of bread for area restaurants, Village Baking Co. opened a small retail store in September, on University Boulevard near Central Expressway.
Village Baking Co.'s kouign-amann pastry has a loyal following for its super-buttery texture and caramel flavor.
The Black Rooster Bakery sells a rotating menu of pastries, including these hearty French-toast muffins.
From savory scones to pecan cinnamon rolls, Black Rooster's menu is wide-ranging.
At some point, the weather will turn cooler here.
When that happens, you?ll likely unearth your favorite boots, scarves and cardigans. But we like to think it?s normal that you?ll indulge in another beloved fall tradition--eating, and in particular, enjoying heartier fare.
In honor of the season, here are three notable bakeries in which you?ll find us breaking bread:
Village Baking Co. For nine years, this company has made standout breads and pastries, from exquisite baguettes to kouign-amann (a super-buttery caramel-laced pastry, $3). With a new small store open only three days a week--Thursday, Friday and Saturday--Dallasites have good reason to join the line that?s usually out the door.
The Black Rooster Bakery This European-inspired TCU-area bakery has been open for only a year and a half, but owner Marche Ann Mann has won ardent fans (like chef Tim Love) with her specialty breads, such as whole-wheat pain de mie and rustic rye with walnuts.
Artisan Baking Co. Gwin and Mark Grimes?s bakery got its start in 2007 making handmade breads and baked goods for the Cowtown Farmers Market. The bakery uses sustainable ingredients like King Arthur organic flour and organic eggs from Austin?s Vital Farms to make its famous Breakfast and Sunny Nut breads.
