A stylish car service steers in our direction
It?s hardly a secret that North Texas is sprawling and growing even bigger as we type this.
So just when you thought there was nothing left to annex, pardon us if we suggest an addition to your phone: Uber, an easy app that allows you to request a car and driver in an instant.
The San Francisco-based company has arrived in Dallas with a sleek fleet of classic black sedans and SUVs, and--despite pulling out of New York recently--we think it's not a moment too soon for our road-weary souls.
For a base fare of $7 plus $3.25 per mile, you can take a break from getting behind the wheel and have a driver take you wherever the action is, whether it?s a shopping splurge in Uptown or downtown to see the latest show at the Dallas Museum of Art. Business trips might call for an Uber jaunt to the airport (from Dallas, it?s a flat rate of $75) or how about cruising to a Cowboys game in Uber style ($100)?
We gave the service a whirl on a recent Friday afternoon, looking to make the brief but traffic-ridden trip from Preston Center to Greenville Avenue. The app found our location via GPS, took our payment info and sent us a driver within 10 minutes.
Getting around town has never been less stressful.
