Hey, people can tell when your shirt doesn’t fit. Seriously, we can see that not-so-discreet safety pin poking out at your bosom.
The reason so few blouses fit the way they should? Apparently, most manufacturers of off-the-rack shirts want to skimp on costs and therefore use fewer buttons than they really should. (The nerve!)
Thankfully, Double R, a new custom shirtmaker, has opened in Uptown to help mind the obvious gap.
Start at their website by selecting your desired fit (tailored, boyfriend or shirtdress) and fabric (anything from seersucker to denim). The site then talks you through measuring your chest, waist, hips and neck-to-navel.
The Double R team then gets to work creating your masterpiece. The fabric is selected from mills in Italy and hand-stitched in a family-owned factory in Hong Kong. Owner Ravi Ratan’s family has been in the custom-menswear business for over 50 years.
We ended up with a tailored, tunic-length white-on-white checked shirt ($195) that goes perfectly with shorts and wedges.
Special note: Check your vanity at the door. The measurements need to be true, so swallow your pride and be honest with the measuring tape.
