Here’s how to find the Mag Mile’s secret power-lunch spot: Duck through the revolving front door at Saks Fifth Avenue. Turn south. Beeline past the beauty counters on your way to the express elevator next to the Clive Christian perfumes. Ride to the seventh floor.

Step off into Saks’s men’s department and walk forward a few more paces. There, you’ll see the host stand for Sophie’s, a bright, airy new restaurant done in soothing beiges and browns with windows overlooking the Water Tower, a sliver of icy Lake Michigan and the bustle of our city’s most famous shopping street.

On a Friday at noon, we were seated promptly and offered a tray of newspapers to peruse while we waited for a colleague. It was a professional meeting, after all, so we ordered the three-course “Business Lunch” ($29 a person).

Our creamy squash soup was served in a cappuccino mug with a foamy swirl on top, and the tender Amish chicken breast came over a light quinoa pilaf with spinach.

But dessert was what really sealed the deal: a mini sandwich of chocolate ice cream on a warm, fluffy brioche bun sprinkled with raw sugar. Twist our arm, why dontcha?
