Shoot to Thrill
Vavoom Pinups makes boudoir photography a hoot
Boudoir photography is all the rage, but come on: We’d break into giggles if we tried to keep a straight face while striking a pose in lingerie.
But if anything can convince us to vamp for the camera like a modern-day Veronica Lake, it’s the promise of a night of hilarity with our girlfriends.
Photography studio Vavoom Pinups takes a cheeky approach by emphasizing female empowerment over sultry seriousness (it’s more about style than skin), and there’s no better way to nix the intimidation factor than to book a party shoot with friends. ($200 to $300 per participant)
For three to five hours, Vavoom transforms its Hubbard Street studio into the best BYOB dress-up party ever, and each “kitten” goes home with an 8-by-10 print. (Perfect V-Day gift for your significant other? Check.)
There’s a treasure trove of vintage outfits to choose from--studio owner Heather Stumpf-Popio stocks frocks of all sizes (are you a naughty secretary or a sexy mechanic?) and fits them to clients with clamps that are Photoshopped out in the final portrait. Makeup and hair stylists will sculpt your tresses into gleaming victory rolls.
After the shoot, keep your calendar-girl look intact and head out with your fellow dames for a few old-fashioneds at nearby Au Cheval.
