Your book club is having a Francophile moment and you need someplace theme-appropriate for your next summit. What could be more perfect than a private tasting room at a temple to French sweets?
We found just the lovely lair at the spacious new Lincoln Park bakery Vanille Patisserie.
With eight plush Louis-inspired chairs arranged around a rustic dining table, a crystal chandelier overhead and windows overlooking a pretty block of Clark Street, the room was built as a place for clients to meet with pastry chefs about custom orders for birthday, wedding and other special-occasion cakes.
But we can think of plenty of other excuses--book club, a friend’s baby shower, because it’s Wednesday--to reserve the space (call for details) and settle in over an espresso and a plate of Vanille’s supremely pillowy Nutella macarons or one of its almost-too-perfect-to-eat mousse cakes. (Get the Sophia, a rich flourless chocolate cake with hazelnut crisp and a shiny milk-chocolate glaze, $6.75 per mouthwatering slice.)
