Shoe designer James Sommerfeldt appeared on Lifetime's Project Accessory.
It?s always been our dream: gorgeous heels that are so comfortable, you could trek from the Hancock Center to the Willis Tower without a single twinge.
Thanks to local shoe designer James Sommerfeldt, who competed in a Project Runway spin-off called Project Accessory in 2011, the dream is alive.
At Sommerfeldt's West Town studio, he designs and makes custom shoes for clients. The process involves 40 hours of hands-on construction per pair, and a 14-step measuring method means your shoes will fit better than, oh, your favorite socks. (The bend of your foot and even bunions are taken into account.)
Tell Somerfeldt your vision, then choose from racks and rolls of exotic leathers and beautiful fabrics. Get creative, or leave things in the hands of the genius himself.
The process begins with a consultation and fitting ($150, credited toward the price of the shoes). Sommerfeldt will send you sketches within two weeks, then it takes five to seven weeks for your pair to arrive. Pumps begin at $900 and boots range from $1,250 to $2,500.
They?re an investment, but you can?t put a price on painless perfection.
