Beware the Zombie! This drink costs $75, serves four to six people and basically contains rum, rum and a lot more rum.
Winner for longest cocktail name: A Lonley Island Lost in the Middle of a Foggy Sea ($13). The cold-brew coffee in this concoction will keep you partying all night.
It's always tiki time at the new River North bar Three Dots and a Dash.
The Tropical Itch ($13) debuted in 1957 at the Hawaiian Village Hotel--also the birthplace of paper parasols as garnishes.
Another reason to celebrate: the passionfruit, ginger, vanilla and, of course, rum-laced Christmas in July ($50, serves three to four).
Lounge like you're on vacation at Three Dots and a Dash.
Our nightlife priorities have shifted. No longer do we angle for a table at the club with the longest line; now it’s more about preserving our one set of eardrums. And when cocktailing in River North, we usually aim for a graceful exit before the post-frat scene takes over around 9 p.m.
But we’re changing our early-bird tune thanks to Three Dots and a Dash, the irrepressibly fun new tiki bar located beneath Bub City.
With a neon-lit back-alley entrance, throwback Polynesian decor and retro island music, Three Dots is flirting with becoming the neighborhood’s next big nightclub, save for one crucial detail: The cocktails--not the scene--are the draw.
The drink menu is by mixologist Paul McGee (Paris Club, RPM Italian), and it includes potent rum-based classics like the Mai Tai, the Tropic of Thistle and the lounge’s namesake rum, honey and allspice concoction (all $13). The drinks are served in bespoke tiki glassware--think huge white ceramic conch shells--with over-the-top fruit garnishes.
When the luau soundtrack morphs into thumping beats, that’s our cue to hula on home. But not before we pick up some Three Dots glassware ($15 each) to keep the party going once we get there.
