If your cup of morning joe is more important to you than any cocktail-hour concoction, then belly up to the bar at the new Intelligentsia in Logan Square.

With cushioned stools spaced around the U-shaped counter and baristas consulting with patrons about bean varieties and cold brews, the latest outpost of the hometown chain shifts the way we interact with coffee.

Between the bar action and the reading selection--from US Weekly to obscure magazines like The Gentlewoman--we opted to soak up the vibe rather than troll Facebook.

The menu lists coffee on one side and the company?s new Kilogram Tea brand on the other. Of course we had to try the most expensive thing: a $12, eight-ounce cup of rare Geisha roast from Colombia. Brewed with an AeroPress (time commitment as you watch this science-lab-like process go down: five minutes), it was like no coffee we?d ever tasted--sweet and superlight, almost like tea. (Adding milk or sugar would be sacrilege.)

And speaking of tea, order the ginger-plum iced version. Its brilliant red-fuchsia hue and sweet hibiscus finish make it fabulous for summer sipping--we?ll be taking some home to serve on our front porch come July.
