Women take the stage at Second City
Funny women like Tina Fey and Amy Poehler--a pair who cut their comedic teeth on the Chicago scene--dominate showbiz these days. And naturally the duo met at the Second City, the launchpad for everyone from Jane Lynch to Joan Rivers.
That?s why we were excited to catch the just-opened Four Girls (and a Guy): A One-Night Stand with the Second City. The show at the plush new UP Comedy Club stars--you guessed it--four women, any one of whom could be the next Fey or Poehler.
For 90 minutes, funny girls Carisa Barreca, Ariel Dumas, Beth Melewski and Claudia Michelle Wallace (plus token guy Tim Stoltenberg) mash up historical bits and timely satire, including the kinds of love, marriage and cat-video jokes only a female could tell. Donning high heels, they bushwhack through topics such as self-defense class, online dating and senators? scorned wives. (Tickets are $28; the show runs through March 2.)
Like Tina and Amy at the Globes, these gals aren?t afraid to hit--and, in one uproarious case, kick--below the belt.
