Tea drinkers, raise a mug: DavidsTea--a Canadian retailer that opened two stores in New York City last year--has taken on the Midwest with the launch of a Chicago outlet in Bucktown.
It?s the first of three local DavidsTea locations; sister shops on Southport Avenue in Lakeview and on Armitage Avenue in Lincoln Park are slated to open later this fall.
The store?s fresh, vibrant and color-coded approach to loose-leaf tea has attracted a devoted following to its 75 shops in Canada. Stop in at the Bucktown location and you?ll be greeted with a free sample, then encouraged to take a whiff of the vast selection of white, green, oolong, black, rooibos and other blends before making your selection. Flavors are anything but run-of-the-mill; the Read My Lips variety ($6.50 for a bag that makes about 20 cups), for instance, is a black tea dotted with bits of chocolate, vanilla, mint and red candy.
DavidsTea also stocks gifts and accessories for tea lovers such as the Perfect Mug ($19.50), which comes complete with a stainless-steel infuser and is a must for single servings of your favorite flavors.
Hot or iced cups of tea are also available to go, because as relaxing as it is to steep your own, sometimes the thirst can?t wait.
