A Chicago-made product lets you sparkle
It always amazes us how much better our baubles bling after we pop into a jewelry store for a cleaning and then fall in love with our treasures all over again.
Laurie Davis--the owner of the fabulous Chicago vintage boutique LuLu’s at the Belle Kay--and one of her best customers, Julie Nerenberg Block, have partnered to address the issue of how to get that same just-polished look at home.
They dubbed the resulting Chicago-manufactured spray-on cleaning product Jewelryvive, and they’re now selling it online ($14 for an eight-ounce bottle) and at local shops Lori’s, Salon 1800, Salon Duo and, of course, LuLu’s. They’ve slipped tester bottles to friends behind the jewelry counters of some of the city’s best department stores, who report shoppers now stopping by regularly for quickie cleanings. (The product works on fine and costume jewelry.)
Many of the glittering bracelets, dress clips and headpieces Davis is spritzing at her North Center store for fall are of the Art Deco variety; the season’s new inventory is a nod, she says, to the kind of Downton Abbey look that puts us in the mood to shimmer.
