Recently lured by an open door into the art gallery at the Chicago Water Tower, we stepped inside with the idea of taking a shopping break but stumbled on an exhibit that only made us want to pull out our wallets yet again.
Photographer Doug Fogelson?s "Exit Eden" show just opened there, and we?re besotted with the lush, oversize prints and their gorgeous super-saturated colors.
Browsing the free exhibit is like taking a mini-vacation to Miami: The bold hues and tropical themes would be perfect in some light-filled beachfront home.
In fact, Fogelson took the photos mostly in Hawaii, Puerto Rico and Costa Rica, and the images of these beautiful settings are about the artist?s feelings of loss as they relate to the self, climate change and analog film. (Coincidentally, Fogelson?s favorite Fuji film was discontinued while he was working on "Exit Eden.")
The works are for sale for between $3,500 and $7,000 and are printed in editions of six each. If it means we?ll have a visual reprieve from next year?s gloomy winter, then we?re determined to own a slice of paradise.
