SAIC
Designs by Alex Ulichny at SAIC's 2012 benefit fashion show.

Watching a fashion show can sometimes have a dreamlike quality: A dress enters your field of vision, and during the minute it takes the model to parade it down the runway, you imagine all the places you'd wear it and all the compliments you'd rake in. Then it's gone, and suddenly you’re not sure how to find it again.

If you glimpsed something you loved last month at the School of the Art Institute's massive Millennium Park fashion-student showcase, you can track it down tomorrow at the "Show and Sell" event at Sage Studios.

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., many pieces from the 300-look end-of-year show--plus accessories like bags and hats--will be available for up-close inspection and purchase.

Student designers will be on hand to talk about their work, and some will accept commissions, should you have a special sartorial request or wear a different size than the available samples.

Who knows? One of these on-the-verge designers could end up as the next Cynthia Rowley (the SAIC grad who was this year’s "Legend of Fashion" honoree). And if not, at least your closet will thank you for introducing a breath of fresh springtime air.
