It's easy to get excited about secondhand shopping when designer names like Chloe, Chanel and Halston are involved. That’s why we wouldn’t miss Modern Vintage Chicago, the biannual market that brings together 75 vendors of clothing, jewelry and accessories from the Midwest and beyond.
The spring installment of Modern Vintage is tomorrow and Sunday (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; tickets are $10 at the door) at Plumbers Hall, and a few twists have been added to keep things fresh for the event’s third outing. On Saturday during happy hour (3:30 to 5 p.m.), makeup artists from Beauty on Call will be on hand to beautify shoppers for their nights on the town. The producers of Modern Vintage encourage attendees to dress for the occasion, and photographer Amy Creyer of Chicago Street Style will be snapping the chicest browsers all weekend for her site.
In the “must-have” category, we’re hoping to score pieces like a 1980s Nina Ricci silk cocktail dress ($575) from vendor Saffron Vintage, a summer-ready Pucci handbag with white leather trim ($240) from Conveniently Sold and anything from New York-based jewelry dealer Ira Scheck, among whose wares is this covetable Dior chick pin ($295).
Perch it on your go-to LBD and voilà: It’s spring.
