We live in the city where modern architecture was born. But antiques--the heavy, dark, musty kind--just aren?t in our blood.
So we?ll skip the cluttered flea markets and instead do our antiquing at Vern + Vera, a new ?fine vintage? shop in Edgewater that specializes in glam throwbacks from the ?70s and ?80s.
The store is named for a pair of rescue Chihuahuas and owned by Eric Silverstrim, who has worked for high-end antique dealers in New York and Chicago. He amassed a stellar furniture collection that his apartment couldn?t contain, so he opened a gallery-like space where he showcases the pieces for sale in vignettes that demonstrate how you can live with them.
Make an appointment and Silverstrim will show you the goods--even the pieces he loves so much he secretly hopes won't sell, like this dramatic wooden wall sculpture ($12,500).
Not ready to make a major investment? Start small with statement pieces like this lollipop table lamp ($325), a strikingly shaped glass vase ($50) or--okay, this is kind of a major item--the most glamorous bar cart we?ve seen this year ($1,750).
