Popular Pays makes the most of your social network
Okay, okay, we’re Instagram junkies. A slice of quiche, an infinity pool in Mexico, our in-bloom purple hydrangeas--we’ve posted them all, and our life has never looked more charmed.
But now that we’re practically microcelebrities, we’re putting our photo-filtering skills to work with Popular Pays, a Chicago-based mobile app that pays you in free stuff for posting about participating merchants. (This is what’s called “pay for play,” people, and either you’re okay with it or you’re not.)
Assuming you are, download the Popular Pays app and enter your Insta account details. (You need 500 followers to be considered.) You’ll then see which deals are available nearby--local spots that have signed on include Heritage Bicycles, Bang Bang Pie & Biscuits and Gaslight Coffee Roasters.
From here on out, any time you show up at one of these establishments, you can mention that you’re a Popular Pays user, get a free coffee/pie/etc., snap a pic of your item and post it to your feed and hashtag accordingly.
If you’re really, really popular--with followers in the thousands--you can even score big-ticket items like free skydiving lessons, water filters and other goods from brands like American Apparel and Bucketfeet.
Who said life’s not a popularity contest?
