You love picking up new tricks in the kitchen. You even pulled off easy-to-eat tacos this month. But who says you can’t cocktail and cook at the same time?
That’s why you’ll love taking classes at The Social Table, a BYOB cooking school that just opened in a cute, two-story yellow house in Lincoln Park. On the schedule this month: menus devoted to fall classics, Italian comfort food and Mediterranean seafood. (Scroll over a class on the website to see exactly what you’ll be making.)
The three-hour lessons are run like interactive dinner parties. First, participants--usually ten per class--break open the bottles of wine they’ve brought. There’s a brief primer on knife skills before anyone gets too tipsy, followed by a prep work session in which you’ll learn to trim parsley or chop onions. Then everyone moves to the chef-quality stoves and ovens to cook, and the food is served up family-style at a long dining table.
Go by yourself to meet new people (classes are $75 a person) or book a private event for ten for $1,000.
