When we’re thirsty, we’ll swig juice by the gallon. But when our stomach’s growling, it’s no substitute for a meal.
That’s why we’re glad Owen + Alchemy--a just-opened Logan Square juice bar--also serves food.
??O+A is the brainchild of Chicago woman Anne Owen, a stylish nutrition nut with a big smile and a razor-sharp black bob.
The spot’s apothecary-inspired interior is similarly fresh and edgy, with moody black walls, industrial light fixtures and statement-making pops of art and color--including a living wall of live moss.
Three quarters of the menu is devoted to seasonal cold-pressed juices, superfood smoothies and eight nut milks on tap--like one made with raw pecan, local maple syrup and cayenne pepper for $9. We sampled a juice made with pomegranate, red grape and lime ($10) and were smitten by its gorgeous fuchsia color and clean, not-too-sweet fruitiness.
Food options range from salads to fruit bowls with extras like bee pollen and chia-seed pudding. We tried the kelp-noodle salad with daikon, cilantro and scallions ($9) and left feeling healthy, not hungry. ??
