Where to get off-hours beauty treatments
We kind of love our hectic workweeks, but an agenda packed with meetings, lunches and deadlines doesn’t leave time to primp for, say, a friend’s fried-chicken birthday dinner or tonight’s Beyoncé concert.
Luckily, there’s an ever-growing pool of beauty pros who will work around your schedule. When you can’t sneak away from the office, here’s where to go before or after business hours:
Makeup at 6 a.m. Wake up with the sun and head to Trixie Girl Blow Dry Bar in Lincoln Park, where you can get a full-face makeup application ($40), a pedicure polish change ($10) and a blowout, updo or braid ($25 to $70) before most people have even hit the snooze button. 837 W. Diversey Pkwy.; 773-698-8499 or trixiegirlblowdrybar.com
Beach waves at 9 p.m. The three sisters who run River North’s Blowout Junkie get up early (7 a.m. on weekdays) and stay up late. Their salon is open until 9 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays so you can get a wash, blowout and style ($40) for a big night on the town. 445 W. Huron St.; 312-929-2291 or blowoutjunkie.com
Manicures at 11 p.m. There’s a manicure-and-martini special every night at Beauty Bar, the retro-salon-themed bar in Noble Square. Wild nails with glitter and stickers are de rigueur, and cult-favorite nail artist AstroWifey is in the house on the first Friday of every month. Manicure hours here; 1444 W. Chicago Ave.; 312-226-8828 or thebeautybar.com
