When you need your gyro fix, you need it now. But you hate, hate, hate driving to Greektown.
We get it. And we’re here to help.
Gyros on the Spit, a Lakeview spot that was beloved from 1973 to 2000, has just reopened in a new home on Lincoln--and the legendary house-made gyros are just as good as ever.
Owner Dino Sakkos buys sides of beef and lamb directly from the butcher and grinds and mixes them in-house. This means no sulfates, no chemicals--just really fresh meat and spices.
Yes, the simple restaurant serves familiar dishes like red-pepper hummus ($6) and fried zucchini chips ($7), but it also has a lot of truly traditional Greek food--stuff you’ve never tried before. We stopped by during lunch and ordered the light and tangy Domatosalata (beefsteak tomato slices topped with raw onions, capers and balsamic; $7) and the Tirokafteri (a very spicy feta-cheese dip served with pita bread; $6).
Even more exciting? There’s free parking on-site.
