Immersive theater at Redmoon's spring spectacle
It's art. Go with it.

We?ve seen some of Redmoon?s innovative and mind-boggling plays in the past but nothing quite like Bellboys, Bears and Baggage, the new spring show that runs through June 8.

For this ?immersive theater experience,? Redmoon?s massive Pilsen warehouse is transformed into 15 surreal rooms, which theatergoers explore at their own pace. Everything is loosely inspired by Shakespeare?s The Winter?s Tale--particularly the stage direction: ?Exit, pursued by a bear?--and if you haven?t guessed it already, the effect is pretty darn weird.

Though you kind of just have to see Bellboys, Bears and Baggage to fully understand it, here are a few highlights from our recent viewing: We watched the full cast break into a dance to ?Heard It Through the Grapevine.? We witnessed a black bear host a disastrous picnic. We planted a seed in a rock garden full of mini pots. We typed a confession on an ancient typewriter in a secret room.

Oh, and we talked to Shakespeare, who told us his name was ?The Man.?

Bellboys, Bears and Baggage, Thursday to Sunday through June 8. Redmoon, 2120 S. Jefferson; tickets ($30) here or by calling 312-850-8440. Shows start at 7 p.m., and groups enter every 30 minutes.
