Where Was ‘Schitt’s Creek’ Filmed? Plus More Burning Questions Answered

ICYMI: Schitt’s Creek is now streaming on Hulu (instead of Netflix). The switcheroo left us thinking a lot about the show, which ran for a total of six seasons. For example, where was Schitt’s Creek filmed? And is the Rosebud Motel real?

1. Where was Schitt’s Creek filmed?

The entire series was filmed in Canada, with the majority taking place in Toronto. While the shooting locations varied, most of the interior sets were located across three facilities: Dufferin Gate Studios, Pinewood Toronto Studios and Revival Studios.

2. Where is the Schitt’s Creek motel?

Unlike some of the references on the show, the Rosebud Motel actually exists in real life. The hotel, which is owned by Jesse Tipping, is located on Hockley Road in Orangeville, Ontario. Even prior to the show, it was a hot spot for professional athletes like Jamal Murray and Kyle Alexander.

Tipping previously revealed that he was preparing to put the Rosebud Motel on the market, though no further details about the asking price have been released. “I’m actually in the process of putting it up for sale,” he said, according to Simcoe County News.

3. What is Schitt’s Creek about?

It follows the wealthy Rose family: dad Johnny (Eugene Levy), mom Moira (Catherine O’Hara) and their two spoiled children, David (Dan Levy) and Alexis (Annie Murphy).

When they’re suddenly defrauded by their business manager, they’re forced to give up their lavish lifestyle in an attempt to make ends meet. This includes taking advantage of their only remaining asset (AKA a small town named “Schitt’s Creek” that was originally purchased as a joke). Cue the Ew, David one-liners.

4. Who stars in Schitt’s Creek?

The series regulars are Eugene Levy (Johnny), Catherine O’Hara (Moira), Dan Levy (David), Annie Murphy (Alexis), Emily Hampshire (Stevie), Jenn Robertson (Jocelyn), Chris Elliott (Roland), Tim Rozon (Mutt), Dustin Milligan (Ted), Sarah Levy (Twyla), John Hemphill (Robert, or “Bob”), Karen Robinson (Veronica, or “Ronnie”) and Noah Reid (Patrick).

Other guest stars include Rizwan Manji (Ray), Robin Duke (Wendy), Jasmin Geljo (Ivan), Ennis Esmer (Emir) and Steve Lund (Jake).

5. How many seasons of Schitt’s Creek are there?

Schitt’s Creek ran for a total of six seasons (which are now streaming on Hulu). The show first aired on CBC Television back in 2015 before debuting on Pop TV. However, it wasn’t until Netflix nabbed the streaming rights that Schitt’s Creek truly took off in the states.

6. Is Schitt’s Creek worth the watch?

In short, yes. Not only is it an easy binge-watch, but it also won five—we repeat, five—major awards at the 2020 Primetime Emmys. Winning categories include Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series (Eugene Levy), Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series (Catherine O’Hara), Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (Daniel Levy) and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (Annie Murphy).
