You just bought a new fall coat and are itching for ways to take advantage of the fresh season in the city. Great timing, because Ulta Beauty is making its long-awaited debut in Manhattan and setting up shop on the Upper East Side. Here are five reasons you should head uptown and make a day out of it (hello, Central Park foliage).
4 P.M.: Go Leaf Peeping in Central Park
It has the best fall foliage in the city, obviously. Enter the park through the southeast corner by way of Grand Army Plaza, across the street from the Plaza Hotel. Walk to the Gapstow Bridge, where you’ll find gorgeous views of the changing leaves against the cityscape. Psst: Here’s where you pose for copious amounts of Instagram photos.
5 P.M.: Pop By the Met for a Special Tour
One of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s lesser-known offerings is also one of its best: the Shady Ladies tours. This tour company offers a new perspective on art and teaches you about fashion and beauty in history, the women who shattered the glass ceilings of their day and the scandalous backstories of famous courtesans. Make sure you purchase your tickets in advance—these tours fill up fast.
6 P.M.: Sneak in a Blowout at Ulta Beauty’s Newest Location
OK, this may seem frivolous. But the fact that you won’t have to futz with a hairdryer is reason enough. The new Ulta Beauty on the Upper East Side is Manhattan’s first-ever location, and it’s perfectly situated for a pre-dinner pit stop. Schedule an appointment for a classic blowout and check out all the beauty products while you’re at it. We recommend nabbing a bottle of Living Proof dry shampoo to make that blowout last all week long.
Ulta Beauty, 188 E. 86th St.
7 P.M.: Eat a Damn Good Dinner at Tavern62
At David Burke’s new modern-American Tavern62, you’ll find things like a raw bar, a candied bacon appetizer and ginger pepper crusted salmon. He’s well known (and adored) for his contemporary approach to food, and Tavern62 delivers the full experience.
9 P.M.: Sip Seasonal Cocktails at Seamstress NY
This bar is a speakeasy, so keep an eye out for a leather shop with scissors on the window. Taste one (OK, a couple) of their signature cocktails or spring for their big-batch punches if you’re with a group. We’re big fans of the seasonally inspired Clever Thoughts cocktail, made with Woody Creek gin, Rhum Clément Canne Bleue, passion fruit, lime, chile and smoke.
