Love Court Documentaries? Netflix’s Riveting New #3 Show Is Totally Worth the Watch

If you love court documentaries, we highly recommend you add Netflix’s latest release to your streaming queue.

Introducing Trial 4—the all-new TV show just premiered last week, and it’s already shot up to the number three spot on Netflix’s list of most watched series. (It’s currently ranked behind The Crown and The Queen’s Gambit and ahead of American Horror Story, Cocomelon and Dash & Lily.)

Trial 4 tells the heartbreaking story of Sean K. Ellis, who was arrested at age 19 and charged for a crime that he did not commit. The victim was John Mulligan, a Boston police detective who was killed while sleeping in his car, which was parked at a Walgreens parking lot.

Investigators confirmed that Ellis visited the store that same night, but they didn’t have much evidence against him. Although his first two trials ended in hung juries, the third one sent him to prison.

The eight-episode series documents his attempt to prove his innocence during his fourth (and most important) trial. In addition to the infamous case, Trial 4 also highlights other issues—like police corruption and systemic racism—that impacted the outcome.

The TV show was directed by Rémy Burkel (Sin City Law). Jean-Xavier de Lestrade (Murder on a Sunday Morning) served as an executive producer.

So much for those highly productive weekend plans.
