Netflix Drops Trailer for ‘The Sons of Sam: A Descent Into Darkness’ & It Looks Absolutely Terrifying

If you’re an avid fan of true-crime (documentaries, podcasts, etc.), then you’ve probably heard the name David Berkowitz once or twice. Next month, Netflix is releasing a documentary on the prolific serial killer (also known as the “Son of Sam”) who wreaked havoc in NYC during the ’70s. And we can’t wait to add it to our queue.

Called The Sons of Sam: A Descent Into Darkness, the series does a deep dive into one journalist's quest to find out if Berkowitz was really acting alone, or if there were other members of a Satanic cult that helped him carry out his murders. The streaming platform released the trailer for the four-part docuseries on Wednesday. And not only does it look terrifying, but it has already left us with a ton of questions.

Watch the full trailer below.

Netflix’s official synopsis reads, “The hunt for the “Son of Sam” captivated the world in the late 1970s, but the story behind one of America’s most notorious serial murderers is all but forgotten—until now. While the arrest and conviction of David Berkowitz brought the nightmare to an end for many New Yorkers, for journalist and Ultimate Evil author Maury Terry, the real mystery was just beginning. Terry, convinced Berkowitz had not acted alone, would go on to spend decades attempting to prove that the web of darkness behind the murders went deeper than anyone imagined—and his pursuit of that elusive truth would eventually cost him everything.”

The new project will consist of archival news footage, conversations with those involved in and with knowledge of the investigation, and even interviews with Terry himself.

The Sons of Sam: A Descent Into Darkness officially drops on Netflix on May 5. And we’ve already marked our calendars.
