NBC

5. Dead Like Me

  • Cast: Ellen Muth, Callum Blue, Jasmine Guy

Although it only ran for two seasons, Dead Like Me takes on a similar concept as The Good Place—life after death. However, in this Showtime series, certain people, when they die, are offered a job as a grim reaper. And even though both shows deal with the afterlife, this one has more mature themes and content than the lighthearted Good Place.

Universal

6. Superstore

  • Cast: America Ferrera, Ben Feldman, Lauren Ash

Cloud 9, the superstore referred to in the title of this comedy, might even be more hellish than the Bad Place featured in Kristen Bell’s series. The similarities between these two shows, however, lie in the characters, who are good people at heart, but still have their moments of moral ambiguity.

CBC

7. Kim's Convenience

  • Cast: Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, Jean Yoon, Andrea Bang

While running a convenience store in Toronto, members of a Korean-Canadian family deal with customers, each other and the evolving world around them.

ABC

CW

10. Jane The Virgin

  • Cast: Gina Rodriguez, Andrea Navedo, Yael Grobglas

Jane the Virgin aired from 2014 through 2019 and follows Jane, a 23-year-old who has everything in her life in order. Unfortunately, the universe seems to have another plan.

Netflix

11. Chewing Gum

  • Cast: Michaela Coel, Danielle Walters, Robert Lonsdale

The British sitcom follows 24-year-old shop assistant Tracey, a restricted, religious virgin, who wants to have sex and learn more about the world. While some themes are a bit far off from The Good Place, the topics of god, life and purpose play a role in both.

HBO

12. Insecure

  • Cast: Issa Rae, Yvonne Orji, Jay Ellis

The comedy series looks at the friendship of two modern-day Black women, in addition to their uncomfortable experiences navigating the tricky professional and personal terrain of Los Angeles. And yes, hilarity ensues.
