Netflix Drops New ‘Shadow and Bone’ Trailer & It’s Giving Us Serious ‘Game of Thrones’ Vibes

If you're ready to embark on a new adventure that involves magic, then prepare to visit the Grishaverse in Netflix's upcoming series, Shadow and Bone.

Based on Leigh Bardugo's Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows novels, the fantasy show is generating a lot of buzz on social media. And lucky for fans, Netflix just released a full-length trailer for the series, which showrunner Eric Heisserer has called a cross between Ocean's Eleven and Game of Thrones.

According to Netflix's official synopsis, Shadow and Bone will take us to "a war-torn world, where lowly soldier and orphan Alina Starkov has just unleashed an extraordinary power that could be the key to setting her country free. With the monstrous threat of the Shadow Fold looming, Alina is torn from everything she knows to train as part of an elite army of magical soldiers known as Grisha. But as she struggles to hone her power, she finds that allies and enemies can be one and the same and that nothing in this lavish world is what it seems."

Shadow and Bone stars Jessie Mei Li (Alina Starkov), Archie Renaux (Malyen Oretsev), Freddy Carter (Kaz Brekker), Amita Suman (Inej), Kit Young (Jesper Fahey) and Ben Barnes (General Kirigan).

While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Bardugo, who also executive produced the series, revealed that Shadow and Bone isn't your typical kind of fantasy. She said, "Think Imperial Russia, not Medieval England, repeating rifles instead of broadswords. It's a story about the people who have been told how much they don't matter proving how much they do. And it's been incredible to see that story take shape on such an epic scale, the battles, the magic, but also the relationships between the characters."

So far, fans of the books have been quite vocal about their excitement on Twitter. One fan tweeted, "The shadow and bone Netflix teaser...MY HEART'S PALPITATING." Another user added, "I can’t wait for the Netflix series to come out! I loved the characters and I can’t wait to read and see where this series ends up and how this universe ties together."

Shadow and Bone premieres exclusively on Netflix on April 23.
