Princess Eugenie, Lady Amelia Windsor & More Royals Who Have Tattoos

Are the royals even allowed to get tattoos? For working members of the British royal family (aka Kate Middleton, Prince William, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry), it’s technically not against royal protocol to have a tattoo (as far as we know), but it’s probably not encouraged—they have rules about pantyhose, for goodness' sake!

But there are a handful of heirs who have chosen to don permanent body art. Here, six royals who’ve paid a visit to their local tattoo parlor.

1. Princess Eugenie

There were some surprising revelations during the Queen's Jubilee in 2022, including the fact that Princess Eugenie's been hiding a small tattoo. During the National Service of Thanksgiving, the princess wore her hair in a half-up, half-down style, revealing a circular tattoo behind her left ear. Who would've thought?

2. Lady Amelia Windsor

The 27-year-old third cousin of Prince Harry and Prince William is no stranger to royal envelope (since she’s 43rd in line of the throne, it’s probably assumed that she’s at a safe enough distance, anyway). The model has walked in fashion shows, starred in high-end campaigns and sports at least three tattoos (a lion on her shoulder, three animal outlines on her arm and a pair of wings on her torso).

3. Princess Sofia of Sweden

The Tough Mudder competitor is even more of a badass than we thought. Princess Sofia of Sweden, who married Prince Carl Philip in 2015, has three children who are fifth, sixth and seventh in line to the Swedish throne. She has three tattoos: a sun on her upper back, letters on her ankle and a butterfly on her ribcage.

4. Princess Stephanie of Monaco

She's the youngest child of Grace Kelly and Rainier III (and 14th in line to the Monegasque throne), and she has a floral bracelet tattoo, a dragon on her upper back and two dolphins on her ankles.

5. Prince Frederik of Denmark

Frederik, who is the heir apparent and Crown Prince of Denmark, will take over the Danish throne after his mother, Margrethe II, abdicates. His Royal Highness sports a shark tattoo on his calf, which officially makes him the hottest royal dad we’ve ever seen (sorry, William).

6. Charlotte Casiraghi

Casiraghi, the daughter of Princess Caroline of Monaco, may be 11th in line to the Monegasque throne, but it hasn't stopped her from sporting a tattoo. She revealed her star-shaped ink while attending the Style & Competition For Amade during the Gucci Paris Masters in 2014.
