These TV Shows Are Shot in NYC but Pretend They Aren’t
That’s not Germany, that’s Queens
There are a million amazing TV shows shot in New York City. But what about those sneaky ones that are shot in the five boroughs but are actually set in D.C.? Or Iowa? Or Germany? These four series are filmed in your own backyard…but they’re pretending they aren’t. (The nerve!)
In the hit FX series about undercover KGB officers hiding out in the suburbs of D.C., NYC masquerades as a bunch of different locations. The Upper West Side stands in for Washington D.C., the Jacob Javits Center doubles as an airport and Forest Hills, Queens, is used to recreate Germany. Wow, bonus points for resourcefulness.
OK, most of the HBO series does take place in New York City, but remember that time Hannah went to writing school in Iowa? Most of the exterior shots around campus were actually shot in Ditmas Park, Brooklyn. Now that we think about it, we’ve never seen cherry trees like that in Iowa...
“THE GOOD WIFE”
The CBS series had its season finale in May, but it’s been totally fooling most of the general public for the last seven years. But we’re on to you, The Good Wife. We know that’s not a Chicago ballroom--that’s the Plaza Hotel.
To an average viewer, this looks just like Washington, D.C. But New Yorkers know it's actually the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument in Riverside Park. Nice try, guys. Nice try.
