This New Naomi Watts Flick Is Skyrocketing Up Netflix's Top 10 List

We’re only one month into 2021, yet we’ve already been gifted with a variety of new streaming content from Netflix. And Naomi Watts’s new drama, Penguin Bloom, is the next on our must-watch list.

Based on a true story, the Netflix original—which has already landed the #6 spot on the streaming platform’s most popular movies list—follows a mother struggling to recognize herself after a horrible accident leaves her with serious injuries and depression. However, with the help of her family and an unexpected friend, she tries to reclaim hope and her purpose in life.

Watch the official trailer below.

The movie’s official synopsis reads: “In 2013, Samantha Bloom, her husband Cameron and their three sons left their home in Australia for a holiday in Thailand. While enjoying a view, Sam fell off of a rooftop due to what was later determined to be a rotted railing...breaking her vertebrae in two places. Paralyzed from the chest down, Sam—a lifelong outdoorswoman, surfer, and traveler —was unrecognizable to herself, and spent long months in a depression that made her question who she could be in the world and in her own family.”

“A year later, her children brought home a wounded baby magpie they found. Warily eyeing the black-and-white bird the kids affectionately named ‘Penguin,’ Sam bonded with the household’s new member, beginning a process of emotional healing that surprised her husband and sons, her mother and herself.”

In addition to Watts, the film also stars Andrew Lincoln (The Walking Dead), Felix Cameron and Jacki Weaver (Silver Linings Playbook).

Make sure you have tissues ready for this one.
