Here’s Why the Oscars Might Be (Refreshingly) Different Next Year
Hint: It has a little something to do with diversity
Remember that whole #OscarsSoWhite fiasco earlier this year? Oh yeah, and the year before that? Well, the Academy of Motion Pictures is finally taking a stand by inviting its most diverse voting class ever: 46 percent of the new inductees are female and 41 percent are people of color. Now, this will only bring up the overall totals to 27 percent and 11 percent respectively... But it's a start.
The invitees include: America Ferrera, Vivica A. Fox, Eva Mendes, Gabrielle Union, Nia Long, Freida Pinto, Idris Elba, Anthony Anderson, Michael B. Jordan, John Boyega, Marlon Wayans and O'Shea "Ice Cube" Jackson, among 671 others (as a whole). Cheers to change!
