The New #9 Movie on Netflix Follows a Teen Girl's Budding Skateboard Career

“The only way to conquer fear is to just go through it. Believe. You've got it.”

Those are the first words we hear from our protagonist, Prerna (played by debut star Rachel Saanchita Gupta), in the trailer for Netflix's new movie, Skater Girl. The film follows Prerna as she chases her dreams of becoming a nationally competitive skater, despite the odds against her.

While the film was released this past weekend, it has quickly jumped into Netflix's top ten list of movies. Check out the trailer below.

In the trailer, when Prerna is asked why she likes skating so much, she says, “I feel like I belong...There's no one to control me, no rules to follow.”

The official synopsis from Netflix says, “Skater Girl is a coming-of-age story about confidence, courage, and the profound impact of blazing your own trail. Set in a remote village in Rajasthan, India, the film follows Prerna, a local teen living a life bound by tradition and duty to her parents. But when London-bred advertising executive Jessica (Amy Maghera) arrives in the village to learn more about her late father’s childhood, Prerna and the other local children are introduced to an exciting new adventure.”

Alongside Gupta and Maghera, Skater Girl stars Shafin Patel, Jonathan Readwin and features a special appearance by Waheeda Rehman. The movie was written, directed and produced by Manjari Makijany (The Last Marble).
