Jennifer Hudson Dishes on the Pre-Talk Show Ritual That Helps Her Relax

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s…Jennifer Hudson riding her bike on the streets of Los Angeles.

The 41-year-old host recently sat down for an exclusive interview with PureWow, where she discussed Mastercard’s Stand Up To Cancer campaign. Hudson also shared behind-the-scenes secrets about her Emmy-nominated talk show, The Jennifer Hudson Show, including her favorite warm-up activity: riding her bike outside the studio.

Hudson admitted that some guests are surprised by her pre-show ritual. “Sometimes I run into the guest as they’re coming in, and they’re like, ‘Is that Jennifer on the bike?’” the singer told PureWow. “And it’s like, ‘Yeah, y’all need something from the store?’ Like, ‘Where are you going? You’re interviewing us.’”

She continued, “I just like to get a little air. I love the sun. And just to breathe a little bit before we start the show, so I can be my best self to try to bring out good energy because I like to call it the happy place.”

Hudson revealed that her number one goal is to create a safe environment for her guests and crew. “I want everybody to always feel comfortable when they come to the show, and we’re all there together. It’s like a party every day,” she said. “But once I walk out through those doors and meet all that beautiful energy, it lifts me up like I can’t even begin to tell you, and I can never get used to it. Every time I walk out, I’ll be like, ‘Wow, wow.’”

Now all we need is photographic evidence of Hudson’s biking ritual.
