The Trailer for HBO’s “The Princess,” a Doc About Princess Diana’s Public Life, Just Dropped (& It’s Giving Us Chills)
According to HBO, The Princess is “an intimate and immersive look at the life of Princess Diana, [which] examines the overwhelming adoration and intense scrutiny she faced by the media and the public as a member of the royal family.”
Directed by Ed Perkins, the documentary uses archival audio and video to examine the detrimental role the paparazzi and media played in her public life. The film covers everything from her marriage to (and divorce from) Prince Charles to her untimely death. It serves as a commentary on society at large, questioning the people’s “unhealthy obsession” with her life, as one voice does in the trailer.
Clips in the trailer show Diana being chased by photographers, paparazzi forcefully trying to squeeze into an elevator with her and Prince William and Prince Harry at her funeral. Most chilling of all is perhaps an audio clip of someone saying, “When you put a modern person in an ancient institution, they will be destroyed.”
The Princess premieres on August 13 at 8 p.m. It’s sure to be equal parts thought-provoking and devastating to watch.
