6 Halloween Costumes That You Don't Need to Buy a Thing For
Party time, excellent
It’s the most frightful time of year, and we’re not talking about ghosts and goblins. Figuring out what to wear come Halloween night can send a shiver of fear through the most prepared of women. Who really wants to drop a cool hundred dollars on a costume you’ll never wear again? These six ideas are not only inspired by the Windy City but are easily assembled using items that are already sitting in your closet. Score.
The Blues Brothers
This buddy costume is as versatile as it comes. Grab your best friend or your main squeeze and pull out that black blazer you usually reserve for client meetings. Add some Wayfarers, a white button-down and a serious “Don’t mess with me” face and you’ve got yourself the easiest (and most comfortable) costume, maybe ever.
Anything Inspired by “Mean Girls”
Cady Heron wore army pants and flip-flops, so we wore army pants and flip-flops. Our forever-favorite movie is rife with costume ideas, from the giant pink polo Lindsay Lohan dons on her first day with The Plastics to the cutout undershirt Regina George turns into North Shore’s hottest trend. Trust us, whatever path you take, it’s going to be fetch.
That Kid from “Rookie of the Year”
We’d be remiss not to include anything Cubs-related in this list. Anyone who came of age in the ’90s will be able to recall this goofy sports movie riddled with plot holes. Hide your hair under a baseball cap, slip into a Cubs shirt and hold your arm at a right angle for the entire night.
Tom Cruise in “Risky Business”
Seriously, all you need is an oversize button-down, some socks and a candlestick (and maybe some nude leggings). The scene that catapulted Tom Cruise to stardom in Risky Business, the classic ’80s film set in the Chicago suburbs, is the inspiration for this scarily easy getup.
Wayne and Garth from “Wayne's World”
Is it just us or is Wayne’s outfit kind of trending right now? Sneakers, ripped jeans, a black tee and a black cap are all you need to knock this costume out of the park. If you’re more of a Garth, just throw on your favorite old T-shirt, a flannel and thick-rimmed glasses. Schwing!
Peg Bundy from “Married... with Children”
We love Peg Bundy’s over-the-top ‘90s style from Married... with Children. All you need to rock her look is a flashy top, black leggings, some cheetah-print accessories and maybe a fake cigarette (or two). Find the Al to your Peg and you’ve got a couples costume that’s as easy to assemble as it is iconic.
