Paging Dr. Grey. Make way because Grey Sloan is about to get a little more crowded. Season 18 of the ABC hit show Grey’s Anatomy ended with a shocking finale as the renowned teaching program was forced to shut down. As the fate of series regular favorites like Levi Schmitt played by Jake Borelli is still up for debate, the residents’ locker room is making way for new characters as the hospital rebuilds the program from the ground up. Make way for five fresh faces scrubbing in to join the cast as new residents. And they might just look familiar to you…

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Has Some New Residents in Town—and They Might Look Familiar
1. Harry Shum Jr. As Daniel “blue” Kwan
First to scrub in is none other than Harry Shum Jr., who some might recognize from his time on Glee, Netflix’s Love Hard and Warner Bros. Pictures’s Crazy Rich Asians. Shum will play Daniel “Blue” Kwan, a determined, hungry resident ready to prove his smarts at the hospital. Deadline hints that he might have a bit of family drama that’s caused Kwam to put his career on hold for some time.
2. Alexis Floyd As Simone Griffin
Shum will be joined by Alexis Floyd who will play series-regular Simone Griffin. Recognizable in her role as Neffatari (Neff) Davis from Netflix’s Inventing Anna, Floyd’s character comes with some major baggage that we can’t wait to unpack. With Shum and Floyd’s characters both dealing with some family woes, we have a feeling these two just might have enough in common for a possible budding romance? (One can hope.)
3. Midori Francis As Mika Yasuda
Next up on the roster is Midori Francis, who you may recognize from the HBO comedy series, The Sex Lives of College Girls and Netflix’s Dash & Lily. Francis is set to play the often-undermined Mika Yasuda who’s determined to be number one in her class. Is this underdog the new Christina Yang in the works?
4. Adelaide Kane As Jules Millin
Adelaide Kane, who’s best known for her work as Queen Mary in Reign, will play Jules Millin in season 19. Millin’s a strong-willed character who had to grow up fast and take care of her family who has a history of drug abuse. Per Deadline, her character is described as the one who is “…not afraid to break the rules to save a life, and sometimes it gets her in trouble.” Meredith 2.0? Only time will tell.
5. Niko Terho As Lucas Adams
Last on the fresh-faced resident roster is none other than Niko Terho who stars as Harry Turpin in Freeform’s The Thing About Harry. Terho will play the black sheep Lucas Adams, who struggles to prove himself as a worthy surgeon.
While it’s too early to call anything about how the series will turn out—especially given the show’s history with twists and turns—it’s safe to say that we’re experiencing some déjà vu, season 1 flashbacks with this cast. Season 19 is set to premiere October 6, 2022. Until then, here’s everything you need to know about the new season.
