1. Will there be a season 2?Duh. Netflix just confirmed that Emily in Paris will return for season two. The streaming service announced the renewal by sharing a video of the cast saying “two” in French.
We’re not totally surprised by the news, since series creator Darren Star previously revealed there’s more story to tell.
“In season two, she's going to be more of a part of the fabric of the world she's living in. She'll be more of a resident of the city,” he told Oprah Magazine. “She'll have her feet on the ground a little more. She's making a life there.”
Of course, he’ll further the storylines of the supporting characters as well. “We have a great world of characters that we’ve established,” Star told Vanity Fair. “I’d like to explore so much more of the supporting cast, like Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, who plays Emily’s boss. I think we’ve just scratched the surface of who she is and what makes her tick.… I certainly have a lot of thoughts about where I’d like to see things going, and I know that there’s a lot of story to tell.… I don’t believe, as an American, you’re ever at home in Paris. In terms of a second season, there are certainly a lot of roads to follow.”
2. What is Emily in Paris about? The series follows Midwestern native Emily, played by Lily Collins, as she moves to Paris to work at a French marketing company. According to a press release, Emily’s new Parisian life is “filled with intoxicating adventures and surprising challenges.” Along the way, she’ll be “winning over her work colleagues, making friends and navigating new romances.”
3. Who’s in it?
Aside from Collins, American series regulars include Ashley Park (Tales of the City), William Abadie (The Pink Panther), Eion Bailey (Dawson’s Creek) and Arnaud Viard (Clara et Moi), as well as Kate Walsh (Grey's Anatomy) who plays Emily’s mentor. French actors Philippine Leroy Beaulieu, Lucas Bravo, Samuel Arnold, Camille Razat and Bruno Gouery also star.
4. Is the cast returning for season two?Seems that way. Collins especially would be on board.
“I would love nothing more than to be able to go back to Paris and do [a new season],” she told Vanity Fair. “Emily could travel more internationally in season 2. There were so many situations that we were like, ‘Okay, write that down. That’s going to happen in season two.’ Also, there were many experiences where we were like, ‘Does Emily go abroad? Do you think Emily takes the Eurostar and hops out and goes to Belgium or she goes to London?’ That would be so much fun...I’m like, ‘Darren [Star], there are so many opportunities to just travel internationally when you’re here.’”
And she’s not the only one who’s excited about season two. In a recent interview, Lucas Bravo (who plays Gabriel, a chef who is Emily's neighbor-turned-complicated-love-interest) told Cosmo that the show has “planted a few seeds about different characters.” “Like Camille, when she kisses Emily on the mouth, and she's like, 'I'm not sorry.' And then when they're in bed, and I'm liking the picture, it's all little seeds," he explained. "Anything could happen between the three of them. I think Darren wants this second season to be really open-minded."
He also spilled details about the future of his character, specifically who he wants Gabriel to end up with. “The way we left things, Gabriel is definitely more excited, or more intoxicated by the promise of going further down the road with Emily, that's for sure. Because since she got here, so many amazing things unlocked for him, you know. But Camille is really strong-willed, she's an amazing woman, and she could very well come back.”
Thank you, Netflix. We really needed this.
