5 Date-Night Ideas That Aren’t Just Dinner and Drinks
Hey, there’s nothing wrong with defaulting to a classic like Zuni for date night. (It does have the best roast chicken for two.) But every now and then, it’s good to switch things up—especially with Valentine’s Day around the corner. Here are five non-boring ways to take the romance up a notch with your better half.
PARTY IN A MUSEUM
You’ve had your eyes on the Oakland Museum’s Black Panthers exhibit, but your sig-o isn’t exactly the stand-around-and-stare type. Friday Nights @ OMCA solve that problem with the addition of a live DJ, booze, food trucks and half-price admission. Oh, and did we mention that there’s also a show about sneaker culture to sweeten the deal for him?
GO UNDERGROUND AT A REAL LIVE SPEAKEASY
San Francisco’s coolest immersive theater experience takes you back in time to an illicit Prohibition-era bar on the edge of Chinatown and North Beach. The Speakeasy’s spirited shindig includes live jazz, an open bar with old-timey cocktails and casino games like blackjack, craps and roulette. Flapper dresses and cloche hats highly encouraged. (We’d say the role-play is a sure bet for spicing things up.)
GET OUT OF DODGE
Nothing says love like a romantic getaway, especially when it’s a weekend trip to Nick’s Cove on Tomales Bay. It’s the perfect place to weather winter storms. Soak in a claw-foot tub in one of the luxury suites and then cozy up by the wood-burning stove with a mug of hot buttered rum before calling it a night.
HAVE A SPECIAL SUNDAE
There’s something endearing about sharing a few scoops at an old-fashioned ice-cream parlor, so take your valentine to Fentons Creamery for a sweetheart sundae. We’ll have the Black & Tan for two, topped with hand-dipped chocolate-covered cherries. It’s got “going steady” written all over it.
WORK UP A SWEAT
No, we’re not suggesting a grueling date at SoulCycle. Jumping your hearts out on a bunch of indoor trampolines at House of Air, now that’s another story. There’s no age limit on this kind of childhood fun. Bonus points for torching a ton of calories during a bouncy game of dodgeball.
