Hate to break it to you, but that standing Friday-night reservation at your local wine bar is getting a little stale. We say it’s time to get a little adventurous, because Miami is a major city with lots of unexpected opportunities for romance (or at least entertainment). Here, seven date-night ideas that aren’t dinner and a show.
Take a Brewery Tour
It’s sippable culture, and we have so many awesome breweries to choose from: Wynwood Brewing, Concrete Beach, J. Wakefield, Funky Buddha, Veza Sur…you get the idea. While you learn how your favorite beer is made, you also get to sample the goods (and take mega-cute Instagrams of those tiny flight glasses).
BOWL AT KINGS
Food? Check. Drinks? Check. Something to keep you busy as you subtly figure out if your date wants kids? Check. Upscale bowling alley Kings offers games for all levels, so whether you’re both newbies (or experts, or a combo), you can play a few rounds while bobbing your heads to music and snacking on wings and beer.
See a show at the Frost
Take an epic journey through space, explore the inner workings of Earth or experience a Technicolor laser light show. You and your (lab) partner are guaranteed to have a good time at Frost Science.
Take in a concert at the Fillmore
Get your signature dance moves greased up and ready to rock. This iconic music venue is a date-night mecca (we have our eyes on you, Alt-J). And we know we said we’d tell you about things besides dinner and a show, but if you see a concert here, you are near Bird & Bone. Just FYI.
Get out of dodge
Nothing says love like a romantic trip out of city limits, especially when we’re suggesting Morikami. This Delray Beach museum, dedicated to Japanese culture, is one of the most peaceful places in South Florida. Reminiscent of an expansive Asian-inspired villa, the property has six sprawling gardens, teahouses and museum buildings with permanent and rotating exhibitions.
Drive to Homestead
This area is surprisingly flooded with date-worthy activities. Think strawberry-picking and cinnamon rolls at Knaus Berry Farm, wine and beer tasting tours at Schnebly Redland’s Winery, fruit smoothies at Robert Is Here and an alligator show at the Everglades Alligator Farm. (Because nothing brings people together like dangerous reptiles.)
Sunset Cruise to Stiltsville
There’s something about staring at the sunset that just, you know, sets the mood. Embark on a fascinating three-hour early-evening boat tour led by a historian from HistoryMiami that will take you and your date to Stiltsville, a cluster of seven pastel-colored wood-frame houses.
