This ‘How I Met Your Mother’ Star Made a Surprise Cameo in the Reboot Series

Calling all How I Met Your Mother fans! One of our favorite members from “The Gang” just made a small cameo in the Hulu reboot series, How I Met Your Father.

During the season one finale, Sophie (Hilary Duff) argues with Jesse (Chris Lowell) after he confessed his love for her while sleeping. To clear her head, she pays a visit to the iconic MacLaren’s Pub, which was the hangout spot for the close-knit friend group in HIMYM.

While sitting at the bar, she orders a whiskey. Then, she is greeted by a mysterious woman, who is none other than Robin Scherbatsky (played by HIMYM alum Cobie Smulders). Robin is a well-known television personality and journalist, so Sophie instantly recognizes her.

Robin leads her to the gang’s old booth and gives her some advice on Jesse. In the conversation, Robin recounts the moment Ted (Josh Radnor) said “I love you” on their first date. At the time, she wished she handled the situation better.

“Do not waste your time being scared, Sophie. Fear can make you run away from things that could be good. Great, even,” Robin said. “Things that are supposed to be a part of your story. So, really think about it. What did Jesse do wrong other than say everything you ever wanted a guy to say, just faster than you expected?”

Before ending the conversation, Robin excuses herself to go have dinner with fellow journalists Savannah Guthrie and Katie Couric. "You're going to be OK," she says before leaving. “I’ll meet future you back here in 20 years for a drink just to make sure.”

How I Met Your Mother premiered on CBS in 2005. The show ran for five seasons, coming to an end in 2014. Alongside Scherbatsky and Radnor, the ensemble cast included Neil Patrick Harris (Barney Stinson), Alyson Hannigan (Lily Aldrin) and Jason Segel (Marshall Eriksen).
