10 Celebs Who Could Easily Moonlight as Professional Chefs
Culinary chops: You either got 'em or you don't. While many of Hollywood's elite can easily hire a personal chef and never step foot in their own custom La Cornue-range-clad kitchens, there are actually quite a few A-listers who have a penchant for puff pastries and pâté. Here, ten stars with such a knack for cooking that if their lucrative day jobs don't pan out, they could easily transition into the Gordon Ramsay and Ina Garten dream world that is celebrity chefdom.
1. Reese Witherspoon
Witherspoon is an actress, a mother, a Southern belle and an excellent chef. When she isn’t killing it with a successful TV series, making rom-com magic or tending to her Draper James empire, she enjoys cooking generational (secret) family recipes like buttermilk biscuits, lasagna and fried chicken.
2. Taylor Swift
If you look through Swift’s food ’grams, it appears her diet consists of cookies, brownies, cakes and a boatload of delectable Pinterest-worthy sweets. The singer says of her knack for baking, “There’s something really calming and soothing to me about having everything measured out and stirring it and pre-heating the oven and getting it all working out.” Oh, and she’s legit friends with cooking queen Ina Garten.
3. Blake Lively
If you follow Lively on Instagram, then you know she's a sucker for quality, home-cooked meals. In 2014, she invited Top Chef season three winner Hung Huynh to her New York City home, and the pair prepared a huge meal from scratch for the entire Reynolds clan.
4. Mindy Kaling
From avocado toast to the three most important food groups (Sriracha, Twizzlers and sour straws), Kaling hilariously chronicles her totally relatable cooking adventures (and mishaps) for all to enjoy on Instagram. You can even catch her on on The Food Network's Star Plates, where she teamed up with chef Marcus Samuelsson to make one of her favorite dishes, the signature crispy whole fried chicken.
5. Chrissy Teigen
The Teigen/Legend family notoriously loves to cook, but Teigen has taken her culinary practice to a legit professional level. Her best-selling cookbook, Cravings: Recipes for All the Food You Want to Eat, features comfort foods and classic Thai recipes to enjoy solo or with the entire family. Proof the family that cooks together…also dresses their yummy daughter in the cutest chef's outfit.
6. Carrie Underwood
The country crooner and notorious vegan loves nothing more than cooking up some Southern-style cuisine for her family and friends. According to Underwood, the key to a successful meal is “good food, good company and good wine,” and we couldn’t agree more. The fact that her entire repertoire of recipes consists of healthy, vegan delicacies (like veggie burger scaloppini!) is just icing on the cake.
7. Anna Kendrick
It all started in 2012 when Kendrick and her What to Expect When You’re Expecting costar Chace Crawford attended a cooking class to brush up on their kitchen skills. Kendrick’s knife slipped, and she ended up losing a fingernail, which prompted her to transform into the master baker she is today. Now Kendrick has polished her baking skills (with the help of her favorite TV show, The Great British Bake-Off) and appeared as a daydreaming biscuit-baker in the music video for Cups from Pitch Perfect.
8. Emma Stone
When she was a child, baking was the only remedy that successfully calmed Stone's anxiety. In fact, cooking helped Stone mentally prepare for the nerve-racking Dirty Dancing reenactment scene in Crazy, Stupid, Love.
9. Oprah Winfrey
As if we needed another reason to be totally obsessed with Oprah, her cookbook, Food, Health, and Happiness, proves that home-style cooking is just another skill to add to her extensive résumé.
10. Cameron Diaz (And a Few Familiar Faces)
Not all celebs can moonlight as chefs in the kitchen. Diaz, along with gal pals and fellow professional chefs-in-training Drew Barrymore and Reese Witherspoon, expanded their culinary repertoires at the Napa Valley Culinary Institute of America. Basically the best cooking class ever.
