Marvel Dropped the First Trailer for ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ (and It Features a Nod to Chadwick Boseman)

It's finally here, folks. We have our first look at Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the sequel to the hit 2018 superhero flick that became one of the highest-grossing movies of all time and was nominated for an impressive seven Academy Awards (including Best Picture).

The highly-anticipated sequel hits theaters on November 11, and now that Marvel has dropped the first trailer, we finally get a sense of what the movie will be about. Due to the tragic passing of Chadwick Boseman back in 2020, the character of T'Challa will not be featured in the sequel, and the role was not recast. However, in the clip, we see a tribute to his character, indicating that the sequel will honor him. Check it out below.

The clip starts out with vague images, featuring shots of a birth, a whale moving underwater, glimpses of returning characters and more. But, one of the most stark shots is that of a mural of Boseman's character, T'Challa, which is seen painted on a wall around one minute and 27 seconds into the video.

As we see this nod to T'Challa (and Boseman), the character's mother, Ramonda (played by Angela Bassett), is heard giving a speech to what appears to be a governmental board. “I am queen of the most powerful nation in the world,” she says. “And my entire family is gone. Have I not given everything?”

This is the only dialogue featured in the trailer, while the rest of it is soundtracked with a cover of “No Woman, No Cry” by Tems. Based on the clip, it appears as if the people of Wakanda will have to deal with intervening powers from around the world following the death of their king.

Along with Bassett, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will see the return of Lupita Nyong'o, Letitia Wright, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, Florence Kasumba and more, while a few new faces will join the cast, including Michaela Coel and Tenoch Huerta. Ryan Coogler returned to write and direct the sequel.

November 11th can't come fast enough.
