Come on Barbie, let’s go make history. Not only has the Barbie movie become the highest-grossing film of 2023 (surpassing The Super Mario Bros. Movie), but the live-action comedy has now officially broken a new record for its distribution company, Warner Bros. Pictures.

Per a report by The Hollywood Reporter, Barbie has earned a total of $1.342 billion at the worldwide box office, making it the highest-grossing Warner Bros. movie of all time.

The record was previously held by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 (which premiered in theaters in 2011). Shortly after making its grand debut in cinemas, the final installment in the Harry Potter movie franchise earned $1.341 billion around the world.

This new record comes after Barbie star Margot Robbie predicted the movie would hit the $1 billion mark in an interview with Collider this year. (And boy, was she right.)

“I think my pitch in the green-light meeting was the studios have prospered so much when they’re brave enough to pair a big idea with a visionary director,” the actress told the outlet.

Robbie continued, “And I was like, “And now you’ve got Barbie and Greta Gerwig.’ And I think I told them that it’d make a billion dollars, which maybe I was overselling, but we had a movie to make, okay?”

In addition to helping produce the film, Robbie famously portrays ‘Stereotypical Barbie’—which is a role that allowed her to achieve a major milestone in her career.

According to a report by Variety, it’s estimated that the Barbie star will likely make approximately $50 million from bonuses and box office sales. This is in addition to the $12.5 million Robbie received for playing the part to begin with, which made her the highest-paid actress in 2022.

We can’t wait to see what other records the Barbie movie breaks in the weeks to come.
