Those Who Wish Me Dead, based on the 2014 novel of the same name, follows Hannah Faber (Jolie), a veteran smokejumper who helps a young boy escape a pair of assassins by traveling deep into the forests of Montana.
And if you think that sounds intense, check out the trailer below.
In the film, Jolie plays a former firefighter who is still grappling with the deaths of three people she couldn't save. When she encounters a 12-year-old boy (Finn Little) who has just witnessed his father's murder and is on the run from the attackers, she decides to help him. Little says to her, "My dad said if anything happened to him, I should find someone I can trust. Are you someone I can trust?" (We sure hope so.)
In addition to Jolie and Little, the thriller stars Nicholas Hoult (Warm Bodies), Aidan Gillen (Game of Thrones), Jonathan Bernthal (The Walking Dead), Medina Senghore (Happy!), Tyler Perry (Gone Girl) and Jake Weber (Medium).
The screenplay was written by Michael Koryta, who is also the author of the movie's source material. Charles Leavitt and Taylor Sheridan co-wrote the script, while Sheridan acted as director.
Those Who Wish Me Dead gets its hotly anticipated release on May 14 in theaters and on HBO Max.
