Chicago’s Best Halloween Parties, Right This Way
Dress code: costume
It’s official: We are too old to be crawling from bar to bar on Halloween. (Time flies scarily fast.) But the thrill of hitting a good, spooky bash never fades. If you’re with us in our quest to celebrate the holiday fully--but without overzealous college kids--here are the best nearby parties happening on October 31. Now you just have to dig up a costume.
On a normal day, Redmoon theater company floats houses down the river and dresses performers in glowing swan headdresses. So just imagine what its Halloween bash will be like. Kicking off at 9 p.m. on the 31st, “Boneshaker” takes place at the company’s Pilsen warehouse. Along with 1,000 costumed guests, you’ll find a make-your-own-movie station, bumper cars and a ghost-themed arcade. (You know. The ush.) Get tickets.
The Drake Hotel is hosting a ghoulish DJ dance party on Halloween. It’s always fun getting dolled up to hit the stately spot. (The harp-scored afternoon teas? Lovely.) But you should really dress to impress for this bash: There will be a costume contest with prizes. Also in store: a specialty “Witch’s Brew” cocktail list. Get tickets.
HALLOWEEN AT GRAND HOTEL
If you believe that Halloween should be a days-long celebration, a) let’s be friends, and b) you’ve earned this scoop. Mackinac Island’s 129-year-old Grand Hotel will host its first-ever Halloween bash--nay, weekend--this year. Slated for October 30 through November 1, the Michigan event includes a trek down a spookily decorated trail, a pumpkin-carving contest, a haunted tea and the Saturday-night “Grand Halloween” party. Get tickets.
