Why You Should Surround Yourself With Polarizing People

Think about your group of friends. How similar are you? Do you all come from the same background or work in the same industry or plan to vote for the same candidate for president?

More often than not, we surround ourselves with likeminded people. We have more in common and it’s honestly easier that way. (Nobody wants to debate every statement they make.)

But according to author and tech entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk, there’s a lot of value in being around people who aren’t like you.

In his new book, #AskGaryVee, Vaynerchuk posits that people unlike us bring unique perspectives and points of view to the table. For Vaynerchuk, who admits to being very talkative and forceful in his opinions, surrounding himself with people willing to challenge his ideas allowed him to take a step back, listen instead of speaking and become better at what he does.

And seriously, who better than an unbiased third party to tell you how that dress really looks on you?
