Archery Is the Quickest Way to Summer Arms
Shooting arrows is way more fun than push-ups
You know how badass Jennifer Lawrence looks firing that bow and arrow in The Hunger Games? And how you’ve embarrassingly wondered if you would, too?
We’re here to tell you: You will look awesome.
Gotham Archery in Boerum Hill equips you with everything you need to channel your inner Katniss--and get her triceps by Memorial Day.
First up: an hour-long introductory class that teaches you the basics about form (the arrow release is sorta like a hair flip) and safety (wait until everyone is done firing to retrieve your arrows, duh). It starts with 15 minutes of rules and info, followed by 45 minutes of practice time. We took our beginner’s lesson ($30) with nine other people--so you can take both comfort in numbers and get individual attention from instructors. Because frankly, it’s kinda hard.
But fret not. As the session goes on, you’ll absolutely get into the right rhythm. (The key: firing five arrows in succession before stopping.) After that, you can reserve a lane ($16 an hour) and equipment ($11) at any time and work on those delts.
See you in Panem.
