6 Micro Hair Trends We Spotted on the Most Fashionable Guests at New York Fashion Week

Yes, New York Fashion Week is, first and foremost, about fashion. But don’t underestimate the beauty looks that come down the runways (and into the streets of the Big Apple). If you’re looking to get ahead of the trends this season, we have a catalog of inspiration waiting for you. Presenting: Six micro hair trends from NYFW that are going to be huge over the next couple of months.

7 Haircut Trends Happening in New York Right Now

1. Chin-Length Bobs

Bobs are practically synonymous with chic New Yorkers, so it’s no surprise that we saw them everywhere this season. To get this particular style, don’t be afraid to snip off a few more inches so the ends clear the shoulders. Whether worn tucked behind the ears or with loose waves, we spotted many fashionable attendees at the shows sporting chin-length bobs.

2. Face-Framing Tendrils

Newsflash: We’re still not over the resurgence of ‘90s and Y2K beauty. A NYFW favorite this year? None other than face-framing tendrils. This look takes casual styles (i.e., ponytails and low buns) to the next level. All you need to do is pull out a few strands of hair in front of your face to add an edgier finish to your ‘do with minimal effort. Want to take things up another notch? Use a curling iron to add shape to your tendrils.

3. Bold Colors

Gemini Hair and Dip Dye Hair are already proving to be huge in 2023, which makes brighter shades all the more enticing. Some guests were seen rocking striking blue hues, while others opted for more classic pastels that are especially thematic as we head into spring. To try the trend, we recommend letting a professional work their magic.

4. Punk Hair

As mentioned, bold colors are in this spring, but we’re also leaning towards edgier haircuts that go with them. From mullets to jellyfish haircuts, some of our most fashionable friends are experimenting with eye-catching layers and styles. While some of these looks might not be suitable for everyday occasions (we’re looking at you, liberty spikes), it never hurts to experiment with your hair for a night out.

5. Box Braids

Box braids are a classic protective style. They’re also considered to be one of the most versatile styles that you can truly make your own. Whether you turn them into cornrows, apply a vivid shade to them (like Phoebe Robinson above) or curl each braid for a chic finish, trendsetting New Yorkers show us how to think outside of the box in many different ways.

6. Wavy Layers

Though it goes by different names (millennials prefer “90s layers,” while gen-Z’ers call it "fluffy hair"), there’s no denying that it’s a popular choice for both groups lately. The key to nailing this look is to add plenty of well-placed layers that not only accentuate your face shape, but also add volume and bounce to your locks.
