6 Makeup Trends We Can’t Wait to Try
Do the dew
Just when you thought blue eye shadow was over, Beyoncé brought it back. This summer’s biggest beauty trends aren’t quite what you’d expect. But with some celebrity inspiration--and local beauty pros to help you--you’d be amazed what you can pull off.
Contouring, it’s been real. This summer, it’s all about clean, glowing skin. The makeup pros at Goldplaited recommend dabbing on some highlighter, then adding some light contrast with shimmery bronzer. To cap off the look, add some rosy cream blush and apply drops of liquid highlighter to the brow bone and Cupid’s bow.

Good news for your body: Toxins are out. These days, makeup lovers are seeking clean products made without harmful chemicals--which will certainly help with that clean skin thing. Jenny Patinkin, makeup artist, beauty expert and founder of Chicago’s Lazy Perfection Beauty School, recommends Well People products in particular. (You can find them at Whole Foods.) She cites the brand’s concealer as a real hero product.

Blue Eye Shadow
Thought blue eyeliner had been banished to the '80s? Think again. Shades of teal, turquoise and baby blue are trending hard this summer. To add a mod touch to the look, Jill Glaser, founder and owner of Make Up First School of Makeup Artistry, recommends starting with a base of silvery shadow, then adding a “wash” of blue on top.

Going into fall, “the big trend is super-black eyeliner,” says Cheryl Santucci, director of aesthetics and retail for Mario Tricoci Hair Salons & Day Spas. She recommends rimming the top and bottom waterline with the dark stuff. Whether you make the line super bold or light is up to you--but remember: It’s all about that inky black.

Dark (Like, Really Dark) Lips
When summertime rolls around, you typically reach for the pale glosses. We hate to break it to you, but that’s so 2015. This year, Glaser says that deep red and oxblood are trending for lips. It’s a nontraditional hue for warmer weather, but we’re down for getting a little punk rock--Lollapalooza is coming up.
This season, the bolder the brow, the better. “A fuller, natural brow will not only be less upkeep in the long run but will also give a more youthful appearance,” says Alli Galecki, regional spa manager for Equinox. So tell your technician to tread (or thread) lightly.
